Linnoitus Prinmaking Workshop

The Linnoitus Printmaking Workshop is a versatile, fully equipped printmaking workshop operating under the auspices of the South Karelian Artists’ Association in the Linnoitus district of Lappeenranta. The workshop is located on the edge of Katariinantori, at the end of a historic 19th-century barracks building (Katariinantori 4).

The premises currently in use by the workshop include 100 square meters of various types of work spaces. The workshop offers the opportunity to work on various techniques of printmaking either as a daily or monthly tenant. In addition, the workshop organizes courses and workshops.

The workspaces in use include a 40 m² printing room and two workrooms suitable for proofing and preparing plates (total 44 m²). In addition, the workshop includes a 16 m² space with a pressure washing cabinet for screen printing and a fume cupboard for working with solvents.

Space rentals for the graphic workshop starting from July 1, 2025, and they include shared equipment:

  • Daily and monthly rentals for members of the South Karelian Artists’ Association: €10/day, €75/month
  • Daily and monthly rentals for users outside the artist’s association: €15/day, €120/month
  • Student prices for use of the printmaking workshop at the same price as association members
  • Desk rental (includes permanent workstation) €100/month, non-members at the same price as monthly rental

The shared equipment for the graphic workshop includes:

  • Manual gravure printing press (bed 80 x 170 cm)
  • Drawers for storing finished prints and plates
  • Laser printer
  • Exposure lamp
  • Screen screens, pressure washer and washing cabinet
  • Basic colors, softeners, cleaning tools and rollers
  • Ferrous chloride for etching
  • Pencil syringe and compressor
  • Fume hood for working with solvents
  • Waste paper for printing
  • Old plates, waste paper, etc. are available from the “Freely available” department

Separately purchased materials can be found at the workshop:

  • Hahnemühle 300 g gravure paper
  • Copper according to use

In the premises of the graphics workshop, it is possible to work with

the following techniques:

  • Relief printing techniques (woodcut)
  • Intaglio printing techniques (etching, aquatint, drypoint)
  • Serigraphy
  • Other methods requiring exposure

HOW TO BECOME A USER OF THE PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP

Both members of the artist’s association, students and hobbyists who are enthusiastic about printmaking can get involved in the activities of the printmaking workshop in the same way by sending a message about their wish to become a user of the premises to linnoituksen.grafiikanpaja@gmail.com. The Workshop has its own Google calendar, where work shifts are marked, and a WhatsApp group, which you can access by visiting the premises and getting to know their operation on site and accepting the workshop’s rules of procedure.
